The Federal Reserve recently restarted its quantitative easing program. For those who don’t know, quantitative easing is where the Fed creates even more money out of nothing and then uses it to purchase government bonds, mortgage securities, and corporate bonds. Many experts are predicting this will be a disastrous policy for the United States. The reason for concern is the specter of hyperinflation.
Most people don’t realize that there is a distinct difference between inflation and hyperinflation. With inflation, you have an increase in the prices of products and services that is generally caused by an increase in the supply of money. For this to occur, money has to trickle down to the people on the street. This provides people with more spending power which leads to a gradual upward trend in prices. Hyperinflation is a different beast. The cause of hyperinflation is the complete loss of confidence in a currency. People simply stop trusting the currency. Hyperinflation, as witnessed in Zimbabwe, can come
about sudden and the effects of it can be absolutely horrific. The primary cause of hyperinflation is a failed monetary policy.
Now the US government is already facing an unsustainable debt. The amount of money owed is scary and everyone deep down knows the money simply cannot be paid back. The government will never allow deflation to occur because it would be even more disastrous to this debt laden. So the smart guys who make policy in this country have decided that simply printing money into oblivion is the only chance we have. The problem is when do the Chinese wise up and quit buying our dollars. When does the rest of the world realize that (1) they’re never getting paid and (2) they really don’t need us as much as we need them. You see, there has been a decades long disastrous monetary policy that has driven us to the brink of destruction. The only question is what are you going to do…
You can continue to be naive and expect things to improve miraculously or you can wake up and smell the coffee. There is no need to risk what you have by keeping US dollars. Gold is a hedge against the abusive policies of central banks. It has always maintained a value and is accepted in every country on Earth. Stop watching your wealth shrink before your eyes. Stop placing your security and the security of your family in the hands of people who don’t care about you. Consider investing in gold coins and bullion.
